Endpoint Detection & Response

What is Endpoint Detection & Response?

Firstly, endpoints are end-user devices such as laptops and mobiles. So, the process of endpoint detection and response involves monitoring each endpoint to mitigate cyber threats, alerting to when there’s an issue and then containing that threat so that any potential damage is mitigated. This is done through specialist software that monitors and detects when there’s an issue such as malware or ransomware. After that, in comes the response, where a dedicated security team, in our case through a security operations centre (SOC), pinpoints the issue, contains it to stop it spreading, and then works on getting rid of it whilst minimising the impact to the endpoint. So, you could say it’s a little more sophisticated than anti-virus.

What would you do if a device was compromised?

From everyday scams, to complex ransomware operations, the threats are increasing and simply getting more common. The problem every business must face is what do we do if just one device gets compromised? The reality is that anti-virus is the bare minimum, but it’s often thought of as the sole-protector. If a device gets hacked, what would you do, how do you stop a ransomware spreading across the whole company? These are all questions we need to be able to answer before they’re a reality for us.
